Jikoni’s in Kampala feels like that rare kind of restaurant you want to “keep to yourself”… right up until you bring your friends along and end up recommending it anyway. It sits in a great location—easy to get to, easy to meet up at—and once you walk in, it opens up into a space that’s wonderfully unbothered: ample seating, good flow, and the kind of setup that works whether you’re slipping in for a casual meal or settling down for a proper evening.

The ambiance is the sweet spot. Warm without trying too hard, stylish but still grounded, and comfortable in a way that makes you relax almost immediately. It’s the kind of place where conversations stretch, laughter lingers, and you don’t feel rushed to “wrap it up” the moment your plates are cleared.

Now, the food. My friends and I shared a Chicken Luwombo, and it was the kind of dish that quietly steals the show—comforting, richly flavoured, and deeply satisfying. But what really pulled everything together were the sides: plenty of them, all tasty, and generous enough that sharing felt like an experience rather than a compromise. It’s the sort of spread that makes you look at the table and think, yes, this is exactly how we should be eating.

If you’re in Kampala and you want a delicious, approachable introduction to Ugandan cuisine—served in a setting that feels both relaxed and elevated—Jikoni’s makes it easy. Come hungry, come with company, and don’t be surprised if it becomes one of your repeat spots.

Fast and friendly service. Very responsive and polite! Although pricey, you should try the buffet. I wouldn't say it's value for money though?! But it's great.

A great restaurant with good local food. Good food, good portions, good service, good ambiance. Enough parking for a number of cars, with stewards who are quite helpful. However, the place had too many flies when we visited. & it took forever to bring candles, which didn't help much anyway. They can do a bit better with that.

Great service and atmosphere, i loved the uganda local food

So my friend took me to try Luwombo, a traditional Ugandan dish. I found the meat steamed in banana leaves quite interesting, but to be honest, there was far too much fat on it for my taste — and I couldn’t even tell whether it was goat or beef. Next time, I think I’d go for the chicken version instead.
The plate with rice, potatoes, bananas, and cassava, paired with beans and peanut sauce, was an incredible experience — rich, earthy, and unlike anything I’ve had before.
Unfortunately, the service really let the place down. I asked for the bill three times with no result. In the end, I had to walk up to the reception desk and wait there just to pay.

If you want an authentic Ugandan culinary experience - this is the place to be! It is located in Nakasero. Quite packed during lunch hours! It is a popular joint for most of the working class locals.

Food was tasty and the portions were really large! I would have to starve for 2 days for me to finish the servings.😅😅 particularly loved the beef in groundnut sauce luwombo. 😋

Service was great. 💯 Conveniently located!

Had lunch with family. It was my first time eating here. The place is lovely and the staff welcoming. The food was very nice and service was excellent. Will definitely recommend this restaurant.

Very impressed with the layout and privacy in the garden seating. It was our first time trying Lowombo. It was plenty and well prepared only would be good if server brings what is requested from side choices and fills the plate instead of wasting food with unrequested items. Overall great local dining experience!

If you really love local food and you like a serene place to eat from this is it.
Food prices are a little higher than usual so go well equipped.

Tasty local food from all parts of Uganda, the prices are not bad, the staff are smart, polite but friendly. Ample parking space. Service is quick. A must visit for those that like local food

Food was overly priced. And not seasoned at all. We had flies roaming our table and the waiters didn’t even do anything about it. They served us a wrong order and refused to return it. Our overall experience was so bad and no one even cared . Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone visiting Kampala

What a place, total silent and relaxing place!
Food is amazing, service great, I will come back in the evening, to check out the lounge area at same place.

Lovely place, great atmosphere, tasty food

I recently dined at the hickory restaurant that truly impressed me with its exceptional ambiance, cleanliness, and spacious layout. The environment was incredibly inviting and well-maintained, providing a sense of comfort and relaxation. Unlike many congested dining establishments in Kololo, the hickory restaurant had ample space between tables, allowing for a comfortable and private dining experience. The attention to cleanliness was evident, with spotless tables, polished silverware, and immaculate floors. Overall, I was thoroughly pleased with the restaurant’s commitment to providing a pleasant and hygienic dining environment. With Small but secure parking space, street parking is also allowed and secure.

It’s still a surprise that I had never been to The Hickory until this weekend and guess what, my expectations were truly surpassed! The food was AMAZING 100/100, the service was exceptional! The music was just right and the atmosphere was superb.

I’m definitely returning here to enjoy the other food options.

It is a good place for breakfast, lunch, dates and other 2 to 6 people business meetings.nNOTE : It's not a good place for parties.

Genuinely one of the best, classy in terms of standards, safety and aesthetic architecture presentation for aesthetics of a mall. Found at a highly strategic business area ring centred area of Kampala. Full of services and products from cinema, restaurants, banks. Bars, offices to gym. Available ample parking plus security it's a must visit place

Great place for both shopping,  family outings and hanging out with friends. Alot of snacks,  food and ice cream in all flavors and volumes. There is also a cinema for those that love going out for movies. It's  a really amazing spot. I'd  recommend it for family outing also because it has a spot for kids games where they can have so much fun. I personally had my birthday there and it was so lovely. To the gentle considering a date,  this is a perfect spot to take that lady and give her a good time.

Always a pleasure going here, apart from the traffic in the environs,  the mall itself offers a calm ambience,  parking is never a hustle and with the number of shops, you can get alot done when you get there, from shopping to banking to eating out. Ps: kids are in holidays so it was bit crowded with teenagers.

Its one of those high end malls a few meters away from the city  centre,  has a large shopping store (Shoprite opened in May 2018),  Cinema halls , Several restaurants, Virtual gaming places,  ample parking,  lifts , Salons,a Gymnasium, Boutiques,  Flower shops, Apartments, etc.

Best sushi in Kampala! Super fresh fish, wide-range of options and all time favourite for a date night. Try the ginger orange martini!

Had a fantastic dining experience at Yujo Izakaya! The food was absolutely amazing—everything from the sushi to the katsu burgers and dumplings was full of flavor and beautifully presented. The cocktails and mocktails were unique and delicious! While the service was a bit slow, the staff was friendly and the incredible atmosphere made up for it. Perfect spot for a relaxed, enjoyable meal. I’ll definitely be back!

Ambiance was great however didn't get to experience most of it cause of the weather. The fries and wine were great. My steak however tasted too rare instead of medium rare which I didn't enjoy and the service was slow: it took too long for someone to bring me the menu after I was seated. Overall it's a nice gem, would love to go back and try the Japanese cuisine.

Our favorite restaurant in Kampala! Yujo is high-quality, expertly crafted, incredible food. We have tried several dishes and none have disappointed at all. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. The restaurant has a laid-back feel to it, but is great for a delicious lunch or nice date night out.nnI can’t say enough good things about it!

So good. Very delicious Japanese food. I really love it here. Definitely visit again.

Pilato is ayime away from home , everything is outstanding their food ,the hospitality oh my God this place is amazing.

I recently dined at Piato and, unfortunately, our experience did not live up to the restaurant's reputation.nnUpon arrival, I encountered a significant mix-up with our reservation. Despite confirming our booking twice earlier in the week, we were informed that our table had been given to another party. This led to an uncomfortable wait as the staff scrambled to find a solution, setting a negative tone for the evening.nnThe service was average at best. While our server was polite, they seemed more focused on expediting our main courses than ensuring we had an enjoyable dining experience. When it came time to order dessert, we were told the kitchen had closed and that ice cream was the only option available. This was particularly disappointing, especially since other diners received their full orders before the kitchen shut down.nnAs for the dishes we ordered, they were decent but lacked the creativity and depth I had anticipated.nnOverall, my experience at Piato was underwhelming. With a reservation mix-up and lackluster service and food, I left feeling unsatisfied. I hope they can achieve the consistency that others have clearly experienced.

Oh, what a very, very wonderful place. You can see all of Kampala from there. The nicest people there. Very good view top of the hill. Beautiful space and Good food. But remember to carry a sweater if you plan to seat up on the rooftop coz it gets COLD.

Beautiful place..the aesthetics are good ..loved the art. The food was great I'd one of my best pizzas from there that i had to try two differentkinds of pizza. The night views are lovely too .nHowever the service was a little slow i recommend they could add more staff because sometimes your order is forgotten or you've to keep reminding them about your order. I ordered for my coffee three times to finally get one almost an hour later.

What an amazing place, 3 3-floor restaurants and, an upper-floor bar. With the best views of the city, you can find, it's perfect.

Lovely view and atmosphere. Great location. I had the meze platter and it was really tasty. I also had a mint lemonade, which was good but sadly came with a plastic straw. If the owner is reading this, please only give straws if a customer asks, and help reduce plastic waste.

Had dinner at this restaurant whilst on a business trip in Uganda. Wow, everything was great. The atmosphere and layout was stunning. The waiters and service we experienced was impeccable.nnAs for the food, well that was a complete different story. The food was at another level. Hats off to their chefs as they sure know what they are doing. I had the full grilled tilapia and my colleague had the pan fried goat. And the side of plantain, well all I can say is, have it. Both dishes were worthy of being on any of the best restaurants globally.nnWould I recommend a meal there? Without a doubt - YES!!!
