Fort Lugard

This building right here is a visual of when foreigners come to conquer your land and build an office in the same land. The office then becomes the place to run and plan the colonization of the people and land. Wild.nnFort Lugard was constructed in 1890-1891 by Captain Frederick Lugard, a British colonial administrator, during the period of British colonial rule in East Africa-he was in charge of the colonial operations within Uganda. The fort served as an administrative center for the Imperial British East Africa Company. It is also the first brick building in Uganda.nnAccessing the site is free and is very easily accessible. It however seems like it has just been deserted and I hope they conserve this site since it is a part of the Ugandan history.nnTour by @tembeakampalawalkingtours (IG)

Such a nice historic place and a good place to visit.

The Fort is located at old Kampala hill directly overlooking the City Center and it is situated about 2 km North-West of the Kampala City center between Old Kampala mosque and Old Kampala secondary school. The Fort is of national importance and signifies the country’s colonial era under the rule of Captain Lugard as first Governor of the Protectorate. Frederick Lugard was a British soldier  who arrived in Uganda in the 1890s and built his fort on top of the hill. The original fort was relocated to a different site on the hill in 2003, to accommodate the largest mosque in Uganda.

Though we can hardly recognize such historical sites. There should be some extra attention paid to the facility

No longer open. But there's a craft market for those interested.

This place is amazing of history and culture attachments for Ugandan political history. Nice monument must visit it as it depicts how Uganda became independent from  the British colonial powers. Place is accessible along Speke Road next to Sheraton Hotel Kampala. Come and take photos 📸 to remind you of Ugandan history

The Independence Monument also known as the Uganda Independence Monument is a sculpture which symbolize the Uganda's independence from British colonialism on 9 October 1962.It is 29 feet (6 meters) tall concrete sculpture located in the center of Kampala City in the King George V Jubilee gardens at Nile Avenue between Sheraton Kampala Hotel, Grand Imperial Hotel to the right, and Standard Chartered bank to the left in Uganda.

The birth of a nation - this is what this monument signifies.nnThe older woman symbolizes the older Uganda and the bondage around the legs upto the chest is the colonial rule that Uganda was subjected to and then the way the woman is holding up the male child seen to be emerging from the bondage, symbolizes the birth of a nation out of colonialism which is the Uganda of Now represented by the child.nnThe young Uganda (the child) is seen to be celebrating the freedom gained from colonial rule which was in 9th October 1962.nnA must-visit site when in Kampala. Great History of Uganda. I didn't know Uganda gained independence before my country Kenya in 1962. You should visit. Entry is free. You need to come relax as you enjoy the views of the city
